Ogun State Government has said it is planning to supplement the local council allocation due to the state from the Federal Government with N392, 498,944.60 to meet up with the first line charges for the month of May.

Commissioner for Finance and Chief Economic Adviser to the Governor, Mr. Dapo Okubadejo, while presenting the summary of the allocation, yesterday, at the May 2022 Joint Accounts Allocation Committee (JAAC) meeting at Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, said N3,179,278,635.45 was to be shared among the 20 local councils.

The commissioner, represented by the Permanent Secretary and Accountant-General of the state, Mr. Babatunde Aregbesola, noted that N4, 218,445,057.78, which makes up the first line charges, is required for the month of May statutory payments that include primary school teachers’ salary, payment of retired local council staff salaries and allowances, check-off dues, salaries and allowances for traditional council members, among others, saying there is need for additional N392, 498,944.60 to balance up the first line charges for the month.

The Commissioner added that N646,667,477.73 from Pay As You Earn (PAYE), contributory pension, five per cent bond on pension, and co-operative loans were still pending for payment until the government’s revenue increases.

In his welcome address, Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Mr. Kolawole Fagbohun, enjoined all the council chairmen to intensify efforts on revenue generation, saying the allocation from the Federal Government was dwindling.

He charged them to put in place internal control mechanism to block revenue leakages to strengthen the councils financially.
