The Ohanaeze Youth Council (OYC), yesterday, faulted Enugu Catholic Diocese’s decision to temporarily transfer the Spiritual Director of Adoration Ministry in Enugu, Nigeria (AMEN), Fr. Ejike Mbaka, to the monastery.

Recall that, three months after he returned from punishment, following his messages against the Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, Mbaka has now been sent to the monastery, where he is expected to remain till next year.

In the interim, Fr. Anthony Amadi will superintend over the ministry, a development that is already generating protest from Mbaka’s followers.

Amadi was reported to have escaped death by the whiskers as adorers tried to lynch him as soon as he was introduced as Mbaka’s replacement.

OYC, in a statement by its National President, Okwu Nnabuike, said the latest decision of the Catholic Diocese of Enugu against Mbaka is a witch-hunt on the priest.

Okwu added that the group had, in the last one year, alerted of a sinister plot to take over the adoration ground.

He said: “Sometime last year, we did raise the red flag that there was an orchestrated campaign against Mbaka by his colleagues in the ministry, who are jealous of his spiritual gifts.

“We had said that we uncovered a sinister plot to take over the Adoration Ministry, which Mbaka laboured to build over the years, after he was chased out of Christ The Kind (CKC) Parish, GRA, Enugu, on a punitive transfer.

“How can we explain a situation where someone just returned from three months’ punishment only to be sent to a monastery in Edo State?”

“While we do not challenge the fact that the Bishop has the authority to transfer priests under this watch, it must be noted that Mbaka is not just like any other priest.

“We are talking about a priest who is catering for the welfare of indigent housands, irrespective of their origin and religion.

“He pays their school fees, house rents, hospital bills, among others. Is there any other priest in Enugu involved in such humanitarian works? The answer is ‘No.’”
