To honour 42 distinguished personalities
Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State has again received a batch of 40 Libyan returnees.

The state Commissioner for Happiness and Purpose Fulfillment, Mrs. Ogechi Ololo, received them in Owerri on his behalf.

The state government had some weeks ago, received the first batch of 24 returnees.

Okorocha promised to support them financially and materially to be integrated into the society.

He advised them not to be demoralised by the dehumanising treatment that they received in Libya.

He promised to handover the returnees to the transition chairmen of their various local councils for necessary assistance.

Meanwhile, the governor has disclosed plans to honour 42 distinguished personalities from the state.

He said he would also unveil statues of past governors in the state, including the late Sam Mbakwe.

Mbakwe ruled the old Imo State before Abia and Ebonyi states were created out of it from 1979 to 1983.

Okorocha said the event would hold in few weeks time during the celebration of Imo at 42.

He expressed concern about criticisms trailing the previous unveiling of statues of distinguished personalities.

Okorocha disclosed that the highest award, the Grand Chancellor of the State of Imo would be conferred on the former governors.

He said a committee had been set up to handle the event, under the law 18 of Imo Merit Award.
