As Christians celebrate 2018 Christmas, Imo State Governor Rochas Okorocha has urged Christians to pray for peace and successful general elections in the country. Okorocha, in a statement yesterday signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Sam Onwuemeodo, noted: “The governor noted that Christians should be in the forefront of the campaign for peace and oneness of the country since Christ had also preached about peace and unity and told Christians to shun divisive tendencies.

“The governor said with the sincere prayers of Christians in the country, the nation could move faster on the fast lanes of progress and development. Also, Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike, has urged Rivers State people to use this year’s Christmas to erect platforms of love, peace and reconciliation for the greater development of the state.

The governor further urged Nigerians to promote love, friendship and peace during this season and beyond. In his Christmas message yesterday in Port Harcourt, Wike said the season exemplifies love, advising Nigerians to always love one another.

Wike, who advised Rivers State people to pray for the state to enjoy greater peace for the state government to consolidate on her developmental programmes that have made the state first among equals, assured the people of the state that he would remain focused in his delivery of pro-people projects and programmes to improve their standard of living.

Ondo State Governor Oluwarotimi Akeredolu (SAN) has urged the people of the state to reflect on the essence of the Birth of Jesus Christ, which requires them all to love one another and promote societal common good by making sacrifice for a better and peaceful state and a greater country. Akeredolu said the people of the state have good reasons to celebrate God’s faithfulness and goodness, especially during this festive period.

The governor, who confidently expressed his strong belief that only the best is good for the people of the state, urged them to pray along with him to enable God to strengthen his administration’s resolve to transform the state and its people.

However, Ekiti State Governor Kayode Fayemi has congratulated Christians in the state and the country in general for celebrating another Christmas, urging them to continue to live by example in matters relating to love, peace and progress. Fayemi in a Christmas message signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Yinka Oyebode, said it is only through a practical demonstration of love, peaceful co-existence with one another that Nigerians could unite and forge ahead in the crucial task of nation-building.

He challenged the people to use the opportunity of the season to reflect on individual contribution to the peace and progress of their immediate community and the state in general. He also admonished them to use the season to share love and lend a helping hand to others, most especially the less-privileged.

In another development, wife of Imo State Governor, Dr. Nkechi Okorocha, has charged women to imbibe selfless, family goal-oriented, peaceful, virtuous, accommodating service and life to humanity.

Mrs. Okorocha said these at the weekend in Owerri during the 90th birthday celebration of Mrs. Pauline Ezifala Rajis, mother of Nigeria’s former Ambassador to Singapore, Nonye Rajis-Opkara, and hosting of Ohanaeze Ndigbo women, led by the wife of former Abia State Deputy Governor, Dame Nne Nwafor.
