Okowa assents to 16 bills passed by Delta State Assembly

Speaker of Delta State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, said, yesterday, 21 of the 25 bills received in third session of the 7th Assembly were passed with 16 assented to by Governor Ifeanyi Okowa,

Addressing journalists in Asaba on the third anniversary, Oborevwori, who stated that the House received a total of 25 bills; 15 Executive Bills and 10 Private Members’ Bills, revealed that six of the Bills were awaiting assent while three were still undergoing consideration, adding that 85 motions and resolutions were approved during the period under review.

He explained that the Bills passed and assented to include: “Delta State University (Amendment) Law, 2021; Delta State Audit Law, 2021; Delta State House of Assembly Service (Establishment etc ) Law, 2021; Delta State Printing and Publishing Corporation (Amendment) Law, 2021; Delta State House of Assembly Fund Management (Financial Autonomy) Law, 2021; Delta State Judiciary Fund Management (Financial Autonomy) Law, 2021; among others. The Speaker, who is also the state PDP governorship candidate, disclosed that six Bills passed awaiting assent include Delta State Manufacture and Use of Cotonou Boats Bill, 2022; Delta State Public Finance Management Bill, 2022;

Delta State HIV/AIDS Anti-discrimination and Protection Bill,2022; Delta State Waterways Tax, Control and Licensing of Boats ( Repeal and Re-enactment) Bill, 2022; Delta State Forfeiture of Property Bill, 2022; and Delta State Maternal and Perinatal Death Surveillance and Response ( MPDSR) Bill, 2022.

According to him, the House is considering: “Delta State Electric Power Sector Reform Bill, 2022; Delta State Environmental Conservation Bill,2020; and Delta State Farmers Registration, Monitoring and Certification Bill, 2022, respectively.

EARLIER, Okowa, at a thanksgiving service for the 3rd anniversary of the 7th Assembly held at Living Faith Church, Asaba, said God allowed people to be in positions of authority to add value to the lives of others in the society.

While congratulating members of the Assembly on the anniversary, the governor lauded them for the good working relations between the executive and the legislative arms of government in the state.

He said: “It is the Lord that allows us to be where we are in positions of authority and, therefore, we must use such positions to better the lives of our people.

“It is my prayer that you will continue to touch lives in your various offices. We look forward to a very exciting fourth year and because we have come forth to thank the name of the Lord, the Lord will bless you all collectively, individually and the entire state.”

Earlier, Resident Pastor of the church, Mr. Chris Nwaka, had in a sermon titled, “Accessing Our Breakthrough Heritage In The Word”, said Christians were redeemed as ambassadors of Christ to enjoy dignity and for generational impact.
