ortomSTATE governors across the nation have urged peaceful co-existence among Nigerians as they celebrate Eid-el-Fitri.

Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa called on Muslims across the country and Nigerians in general to use the occasion to imbibe the culture of peace, unity and love among one another.

Okowa, in a statement signed by his Chief Press Secretary, Mr. Aniagwu Ehiedu, urged Muslims in the state to adhere strictly to the teachings of the great Prophet of Islam, Mohammad and to sustain the ideals of the month of Ramadan beyond the period.

Governor Okowa said, “Islam is indeed a religion of peace and the true essence of the religion is to unite the entire mankind in love and harmony,” adding that, “We must all continue to pray and work hard towards building a peaceful, united and prosperous Nigeria.”

Also, Gombe State Governor, Hassan Ibrahim Dankwambo, has urged people in the state to continue the tolerance and peaceful coexistence among them, even as they round off this year’s Ramadan fast.

In a Sallah goodwill message, the governor urged Muslims and followers of other religions to continue to pray for peace, which he described as the catalyst for socio-economic development of the state and country.

“Islam means peace and preaches tolerance and mutual respect amongst members of every community. I enjoin us to live in peace with one another irrespective of religious or ethnic differences,” the governor stated.

Dankwambo called on religious leaders and traditional rulers to also sustain the message of peace as they relate with their followers and subjects.

He wished the Muslim Ummah a happy Eid-el Fitri celebration.

And as Governor Samuel Ortom felicitates with the Muslim community in Benue State on the occasion of this year’s Eid-el-Fitri celebration, he urged them to uphold the spirit of love, peace and unity as enshrined in the teachings of the holy Quran.

Ortom expressed delight over the peaceful co-existence between followers of the various faith in the state especially this year’s joint breaking of fast between Christians and Muslims.
