The first son of the People’s Democratic Party chief and former spokesman to two Nigerian presidents has formally joined President Muhammadu Buhari’s campaign team ahead of the 2019 general election.

Ditan Okupe, whose father Doyin Okupe served both former presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan, joined the Buhari campaign on Friday, the campaign spokesman Festus Keyamo.

“Ditan Okupe, 1st son of Atiku’s man, Doyin Okupe, a UK-trained lawyer of 12 yrs post-call in Nig, volunteers to work 4 PMB’s campaign team just like OBJ’s son,” Keyamo tweeted Thursday night.

In recent weeks, Obasanjo’s son also chose to campaign for Buhari in spite of the senior Obasanjo’s stinging criticism of the president’s administration.

Okupe, in his letter to the campaign team, he opined that the ruling All Progressives Congress President Muhammadu Buhari is the best candidate that can take the country to the “predestined place”.

“I also believe that the nation must do everything possible to prevent the opposition party and its cohorts back into corridors of power to safeguard the future of this great country,” he said.

Hi father, however, felt Ditan’s reason for joining Buhari’s team was his way of settling a five-old score with him.

“We both have had serious issues in the last 5 years. This may be his way of getting back at me. I wish him luck,” the former presidential aide tweeted on Thursday.
