Former President of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), Chief Wole Olanipekun (SAN), has decried the increasing rate at which Nigerian youths are leaving the country in search of golden fleece in other climes.

The former NBA president, who spoke at the 10th convocation ceremony of Ajayi Crowther University, Oyo State, at the weekend, said the situation or trend whereby majority of Nigeria’s gainfully trained youths emigrate from the country in droves, searching for golden fleece in other climes, should be a thing to be worried about as a nation.

Olanipekun, who is the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council of the university, said the news of the maltreatment, maiming and killing of some of the emigrants who litter media space, including the print, electronic and social, is disheartening, horrifying and heart-wrenching

“As a nation, we must be worried about this unacceptable situation or trend whereby majority of our gainfully trained youths emigrate from the country in droves and in the process of which a sizeable number of them turn out to be stewards, housemaids, house helps, messengers, slaves and sex workers,” he said.

Meanwhile, Olanipekun also faulted the Federal Government on the discrimination being meted out against private tertiary institutions in the distribution and disbursement of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND).
