Following the controversy trailing the appointment of Jagun in the two ruling lines of Olubadan chieftaincy title, (Olubadan and Balogun), the three letters said to have purportedly emanated from the Palace have been cancelled.

Three letters, two for Jagun Balogun and one for Jagun Olubadan, were flying around yesterday, yet there currently exist only two vacancies in the two lines, one apiece.

The development led to confusion among indigenes and residents of Ibadan over the promotion of two Mogajis as Jagun Balogun of Ibadanland.

It was gathered that the title of Mogaji is synonymous with a family head.

Each Mogaji who wished to become the Olubadan is promoted to either Jagun Balogun or Jagun Olubadan and from there, move from one step to the other to become Olubadan.

The title of Jagun Balogun is meant for one person, but two people have been issued letters of appointment, the development, which is causing serious confusion in the ancient city.

Chief Remi Ibrahim Babalola and Dotun Sanusi have been issued letters of appointment as Jagun Balogun of Ibadanland.

BUT reacting to the controversy, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Lekan Balogun, Alli Okunmade II, was quoted as saying that the development was due to administrative errors and to correct the errors, the letters had been withdrawn.

Oba Balogun, however, assured the prospective Jaguns to see the development as a temporary measure and not the end of the road, stressing that the vacancies are still there and would be filled in due course.

He enjoined them to remain calm while the errors are corrected with a promise that the cancellation would not amount to denial.

IN another development, the Olubadan yesterday, charged the management of Ibadan City Polytechnic (ICP) to let its city of abode feel its impact in the area of research output that would address some of the identified problems confronting the residents.

Oba Balogun, who made this charge while playing host to the ICP management led by its Rector, Dr. Oladayo Makinde, identified some of the challenges to include epileptic power supply, inadequate water provision, waste disposal, flooding and other environmental related issues.

Makinde said the decision to visit the monarch was to rejoice and identify with him on his emergence as the Olubadan, which he said, was an answer to the institution’s prayer a couple of years ago.

He reiterated that the institution had made tremendous progress which he said, had reflected in its rating as the best private polytechnic in the country as well as its participation in the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) scheme.
