Olusola discloses plan to empower girls as Transcorp lights Christmas Tree to welcome Yuletide
The Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Transcorp PLC, Dupe Olusola, has disclosed plans by the Transcorp Hotel, Abuja, to empower girl-children this Christmas season.
The girl-child empowerment, she said, is one of the several packages prepared by the hotel to celebrate the season.
Olusola made this known at this year’s lighting of the symbolic Christmas Tree as well as rendition of Christmas Carol, which held at the foyer of the hotel in Abuja.
The M.D/CEO stated that the hotel would be giving back to society by engaging with children and the less-privileged ones in the society.
According to her, the empowerment will come by way of capacity building, skills acquisition and mentoring programme. In fact, the identified children would be trained on soup-making and sewing.
She said: “We want to be merry as the Christmas season begins. We want our customers to have the feeling of thanksgiving, celebration and appreciation of the success of the entire year, recognizing that Transcorp Hilton welcomes everyone to come to spend the end of the year with us.
“The key part of the celebration is giving back to the community. Empowering the girl-child with mentoring in skills acquisition such as sewing and soap-making training. These leftover soaps are recycled and repackaged, they will be gifted to these girls and their communities.”
Adding: “There are lots of fun experiences to tighten family bonding this Christmas holidays, including comedy shows. There is also a magnificent buffet with a wide variety of dishes – local and international.
“We also have a special feature called the Nigerian Theme Night, where there will be all kinds of traditional foods you might not think you will find there, such as roasted or boiled corn, roasted plantain and many more.”
In his exhortation, the Catholic Auxiliary Bishop of Abuja, Most Revered Anselm Umoren, reflected on the significance of Christmas.
He stated that the nation needs light, reconciliation and hope which is the significance of lighting the Christmas Tree.
He said: “My dear friends, I am glad to be among you today for the Christmas Tree lighting ceremony by Transcorp Hilton. The season we are in as you all know, is joyful. Though Christmas is a Christian feast, people of other faiths often key into it in various ways and for various reasons. During this season, the best in us and our cultures come to the fore. The hidden goodness in us finds expression. And Christmas trees are used to represent this beauty.
“Our country Nigeria and indeed, the whole world, desperately need light. We need hope, reconciliation, kindness, fellowship, love, peace, unity, joy and goodness.
“With these, the light of Jesus Christ shines. Let us all resolve, each one of us, to live as a light unto others as we perform this tree lighting ceremony”, He said.
The highlight of the evening was they symbolic lighting of the giant, beautifully decorated Christmas Tree standing at the centre of the hotel’s reception.
As usual, the Abuja Metropolitan Music Society (AMEMUSO) was on ground to spice the occasion with their performances.
