Olympique Lyonnais seals PariPesa partnership

Paripesa

French football club Olympique Lyonnais (OL) has announced a new regional commercial agreement: bookmaker company Paripesa Nigeria has become the club’s Official Betting Partner across the African continent. The announcement was published on the official channels of both organizations.

Scope of the agreement
According to the joint statement issued by the two parties, the cooperation will unfold across several directions. The partnership will include co-branded digital campaigns dedicated to the club’s African fanbase and the history of its connection with the region, exclusive offline and virtual experiences designed specifically for African supporters, as well as community engagement initiatives – including giveaways and competitions – aimed at deepening fan participation and loyalty.

The geography of the partnership is limited to the African continent. The agreement does not extend to European or other international markets, where Olympique Lyonnais maintains separate commercial arrangements. The financial terms of the deal and its duration have not been publicly disclosed by either party, which is consistent with standard practice for regional sponsorship contracts of this type.
Statements from both sides
In an official comment, Harry Moyal, Deputy General Manager of Olympique Lyonnais, noted that fans on the African continent represent a significant part of the club’s global community and emphasized that the new agreement is a step toward strengthening that connection. He added that the partnership is expected to provide supporters with new ways to engage with the club.

On the operator’s side, the agreement was commented on by Damilare Obadimu, Chief Business Development Officer at PariPesa Africa. He stated that cooperation with a club of Olympique Lyonnais’ caliber will allow the company to offer fans an enhanced level of experience, combining the competitive heritage of the club with PariPesa’s digital infrastructure.

Industry context
Partnerships between European football clubs and bookmaker operators on emerging markets have become an increasingly common practice in recent years. Africa remains one of the most dynamically growing regions for the online betting industry: according to industry analysts, the highest activity is observed in Nigeria, Kenya, Ghana, and Tanzania, where mobile-first user behavior and the strong cultural presence of European football make for a particularly attractive commercial environment.

For Olympique Lyonnais – a club that has recently undergone financial restructuring within the Eagle Football Holdings group – regional commercial agreements represent an important source of revenue and a tool for diversifying income streams beyond matchday and broadcast revenue. The club has long maintained close ties with Africa, both through its men’s and women’s squads, which over the years have featured a substantial number of players with African heritage.

PariPesa, in turn, continues to expand its presence on the African continent through sports sponsorship integrations. Backing a top-tier European football brand fits within the operator’s broader market strategy, where association with established clubs serves both as a marketing channel and a trust-building mechanism for new audiences.

The first joint activations under the partnership are expected to be announced in the near future. Both parties have indicated that further details about specific programs, campaigns, and events will be communicated through their official communication channels as the rollout progresses.
