Omo-Agege decries alleged underdevelopment of Delta despite huge allocation, IGR

The immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege, has decried the underdevelopment of Delta State despite the huge revenue accruable to the state from the federation account as a result of 13 per cent derivation and Internally Generated Revenue (IGR).

Omo Agege, the State APC governorship candidate in 2023, stated this yesterday at Oghara, Ethiope West Local Council, where he officially welcomed House of Representatives member, Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, and her teaming supporters, including former top Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leaders who defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

He expressed worry that with over N900 billion which Governor Sherrif Oborovwori has received as a result of President Bola Tinubu’s policies, Delta State has nothing to show for it except the N86 billion flyover at Effurun.

While berating successive PDP-led governments in the state that there has not been serious governance in the state since James Ibori left office in 2003, the APC leader lamented that with the humongous amount at the coffers of the state government, it has not translated to infrastructural and economic development in the state.

He said: “Since the election, I have deliberately avoided speaking on the state of affairs in our state, hoping that the governor would rise to the occasion. Unfortunately, nothing has changed. It’s time for me to speak out. Delta State has benefited significantly from President Bola Tinubu’s policies, particularly the removal of petrol subsidies and the flotation of the naira, resulting in increased Federal Account Allocation Committee (FAAC) allocations.”
