MimikoOndo state government at the weekend declared that it has effectively curtailed the spread of the strange disease referred to as ‘Ondo X’, which broke out in Irele Local Government Area of Ondo State.

The feat was achieved after the people, relying on the advice of the state government refrained from consumption of locally brewed gin known as “ogogoro”, which was attributed to be the cause of the disease, which killed over 27 persons in Ode-Irele

The State Commission for Health, Dr. Dayo Adeyanju at a parley with journalists and other stakeholders, said the result of the toxicological tests and subsequent actions taken by the state government have helped to unravel the mystery behind the strange ailment.

He revealed that the concerted efforts of the state government and other health related bodies across the globe have yielded much result; and for the record, there have been no reported new cases of the disease in the last 14 days.

“Since we asked them to abstain from the consumption of ogogoro, there were no longer new cases. After abstinence, we don’t record any case,” he said.
