Onosode Laid To Rest
Anyaoku, Oyegun, Okowa, Others Pay Tributes
BOARDROOM guru, Dr Gamaliel Oforitsenere Onosode was yesterday laid to rest at his country home in Ughelli, Delta State, amid outpouring of eulogies by prominent Nigerians.
At the funeral service at the First Baptist Church, Ughelli, Onosode was celebrated for his iconic leadership qualities which was exemplary legendary by Nigerian standards. Former Commonwealth Secretary General, Chief Emeka Anyaoku, who spoke at the service, said he met Onosode a day before he died and that despite his ill-health, he remained remarkably brave.
He said with the death of Onosode, a great Iroko in the corporate world has fallen. Anyaoku said although he was abroad for 37 years, his friendship with Onosode never waned. He enjoined his wife, Susan, and children to take heart because Onosode was a virtuous man.
Also, speaking at the funeral service, Delta State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, said Onosode was a model of simplicity and modesty and that despite his colossal influence in the business world, he refused to accept honorary titles and chose to be simply addressed as Mr. Onosode.
Okowa said Onosode was a stickler for time and that testimonies abound that he was never late for a meeting. In a similar vein, All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate in Delta State, Otega Emerhor, described Onosode’s death as loss to all Nigerians. He said Onosode was fortunate to be educated early and ensured that his people equally got educated.
Dignitaries who attended the service included APC National Chairman, John Odigie-Oyegun, Publisher of Thisday newspaper, Nduka Obaigbena; Senator James Manger, for Delta Deputy Governor, Amos Utuama; Prof Sam Oyovbaire, Chief Cecilia Ibru; Chief Emmanuel Aguariavwodo, and several others.
