Ortom urges support for Akume as Senate President




THE Benue State Governor-elect, Dr. Samuel Ortom, has appealed to the people of the state to intensity prayers for the emergence of Senator George Akume to emerge President of the Senate.

Addressing stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) yesterday at Akume’s residence in Makurdi, Ortom said Akume had paid his dues and has the leadership qualities to steer the affairs of the Senate towards a positive direction.

The governor-elect stressed that Benue also voted overwhelmingly for the APC against the expectations of many Nigerians. The former Minister of State, Industry, Trade and Investment stated that the people of the state would get more democracy dividends with the development hence the need for them to be fervent in prayers that God’s will would prevail on the matter.

According to him, the fervent prayers and sacrifices of Nigerians brought about change in the country and ensured his election as governor, indicating that true prayers avail much.

Ortom, who stated that he grew up in Gboko where he picked invaluable lessons of life, also stressed that he valued the support, which the people of the area gave him before, during and after the general elections, maintaining that he cannot afford to betray the confidence they had reposed in him.

He also pledged never to compromise the mandate the people of the state gave him no matter the challenges that might confront his administration.

The former minister reminded the people of the state of his earlier commitment to run a government anchored on the fear of God which shall entrench core values, including accountability, transparency, truthfulness, equity, justice, selflessness, consultation, integration and peace.

He assured that every community will get what is due to it, adding that elders, women and youths will be given roles to play in his administration and expressed appreciation to the stakeholders who he said ensured that Gboko Local Council gave him the highest votes in the state.

In his remarks, House of Representatives member for Gboko-Tarka Federal Constituency, Dr. John Dyegh, expressed the belief that the Governor-elect would always carry Gboko people along and assured him of sustained co-operation and support to succeed in the task of moving the state forward.

Also speaking, APC Chairman in Gboko Local Council, Mr. Tarnongo Mnyamban, expressed gratitude to God for answering their prayers by ensuring that their support for Ortom to be governor was not in vain and pledged to continue to pray for him to succeed.

Other groups that paid solidarity visits at the residence of the Governor-elect were Mbayongo Community in Vandeikya, Nongov Committed Brothers, Network of Civil Society Organisation, Etulo APC stakeholders during which all their leaders pledged loyalty and support to the in-coming administration.
