Ortom vows to get at abductors, killers of Otukpo priest
Benue state governor, Samuel Ortom, has announced with sadness, the death of the Vicar General of Otukpo Catholic Diocese, Very Reverend Father John Adeyi, who was kidnapped by unknown persons between Otukpa and Ugbokolo in Ogbadibo and Okpokwu local government areas of the state some months ago.
The governor who broke the news at the town-hall meeting he held with Igede people yesterday at the College of Education, Oju, auditorium, said Father Adeyi’s skeleton was discovered last Tuesday in Otukpa,
three kilometers away from the road and that he has directed the police and medical personnel to collect the skeleton for postmortem.
While asking the people to observe one-minute silence for Adeyi, Ortom vowed that his abductors and killers must be be brought to book.
He said his prayer of dedication on May 30 was being answered by God and stressed that anyone who tries God would have himself to blame.
He said the amnesty programme was introduced because of kidnapping, assassination, armed robbery and other crimes and explained that the over 700 weapons surrendered by over 900 persons were from criminals not communities.
He urged youths in Igede and entire Idoma land to embrace the amnesty programme so that peace and security would be enhanced for investors to invest in the state.
According to him, the end of June has been approved as date for the end of the amnesty programme and maintained that as from that time, he would wield the stick.
The governor said he has been accused of overloading Igede nation with appointments but he has told those complaining that he may do more for the Igede because they did not look back during the 2015 governorship election in which he emerged victorious on the platform of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
He stated that town-hall meetings being held across the state was not political and explained that it was aimed at enabling him to brief the people on the activities of his administration and its challenges and also afford the people the opportunity to ask questions and make comments.
