Oshiomhole’s driver nabbed for alleged attempted stealing

A DRIVER to one of the escort vehicles attached to the convoy of Edo State Governor Adams Oshiomhole has been arrested over alleged attempt to break into the accounts section of the Edo State Government House on Friday night.

He was reportedly picked up from his home at the weekend by security operatives shortly after arriving office apparently unaware that he had been identified before fleeing the scene of the futile bid.

The attempt was said to have been foiled on that day by eagle-eyed security officials.

The suspect was said to have sneaked into the section were they normally receive allowances with tools to cut the burglary proof before gaining entry into the apartment.

It was learnt that security operatives in Government House were on routine check when they noticed someone cutting off the protectors in the accounts office.

On sighting the operatives, the suspected thief tried to escape but unknown to him, he had already been identified by the security men who followed him up and apprehended him.

He was promptly handed over to police at the Aideyan Police Station in Benin.
“I am very proud of my men,” the source said, adding that a discreet investigation would be carried out to ascertain whether the driver acted alone or in concert with others.

Contacted, spokesman for the state police command, Stephen Onwuchei, a Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) confirmed “there was a report of such nature which is at investigation level.”

He added that the Commissioner of Police had ordered the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take over the investigation.

“As I speak with you, the DC State CID should be in Government House to visit the scene of crime,” Onwuchei said.
