Vice President Yemi Osinbajo yesterday ascribed his present exalted position to God’s special mercy on him.

He spoke during an inter-denominational service of praise and thanksgiving organised for him at the Obafemi Awolowo Square, Ikenne-Remo, his home-town in Ogun State.

The event was attended by Governors of Lagos and Oyo states, Akinwunmi Ambode and Abiola Ajimobi respectively; the immediate past Governor of Osun State, Rauf Aregbesola; Ogun State governor-elect, Dapo Abiodun; Senator Godswill Akpabio, traditional rulers, among other dignitaries.

Osinbajo, who was accompanied by his wife, Dolapo, to the service, said the event became imperative to express his appreciation to God for getting him out of many challenges in life among which is sparing his life during the February 21, 2019 helicopter crash in Kabba, Kogi State, in which he was involved.

He attributed his survival in the crash to the special mercy of God, who he said, had seen him through “ups and downs of life.”

The Vice President, who offered prayers for peace, progress and stability in the country, noted that God actually saw him through the rigours and hazards during campaigns in the build-up to the 2019 general elections.

The Vice President’s wife, Dolapo, who shared her experience when she received the news of her husband’s helicopter crash, said the mercy of God had been the pillar of her family.

Meanwhile, the Ogun State governor-elect described Osinbajo as an embodiment of diligence and sincerity, the attributes, which according to him, are worthy of emulation.

Abiodun said that just like the Vice President, it was the mercy of God and absolute faith in Him that helped him to waddle through the murky water of politics that characterised the governorship election in Ogun State.

However, in his sermon, the Archbishop of Ecclesiastical Province of Lagos, the Most Rev. Olusina Fape, said the victory of the All Progressives Congress (APC) at the just-concluded presidential election was because of God’s mercy.

Fape, who prayed that God should see the country to the next level of greatness, also said that it was God’s mercy that saved Osinbajo from untimely death during the helicopter crash and urged him to continue to serve God who had been merciful to him and his family.

“The election has come and gone. But it was won through the mercy of God. It is mercy that makes difference in lives of individuals. Election is not according to your power, ability and wisdom, election is a matter of mercy.

“Mercy does five things. It brings victory, exaltation, wisdom, deliverance and success. Your Excellency, whatever you might have achieved is not by your power or wisdom but by the sheer mercy of God,” he said.

“As you celebrate today, God’s mercy will catapult you to the next level according to the slogan of your party,” the cleric stated.
