Osinbajo, others to attend textiles revival conference in Kaduna

THE Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, Senate President Bukola Saraki, and other top government functionaries have been listed to participate in a conference for the revival of the textile industry in the country.

The 27th Annual National Education Conference of the National Union of Textile and Garment Workers of Nigeria (NUTGWN) to be held in Kaduna is in collaboration with the Nigeria Textile Garment and Tailoring Employers Association (NTGTEA).

It would hold from Tuesday, 25th to Thursday, 27th August 2015. The theme of this year’s conference is “Buhari Administration: Revival of Textile Industry and Employment Creation,” while the main objective is to critically examine all the possible immediate implementation strategies for the revival of the textile industry as desired by the current administration.

President of the Textile Workers Union, Dele Hunsu, who addressed journalists in Kaduna said that the conference is expected to x-ray “the historic background of the emergence of President Muhammadu Buhari as the fourth President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria in the current democratic dispensation”, saying that “ We are inspired by the fact that President Buhari has commendably made revival of the textile industry in the country a cardinal point of the current administration’s efforts to re-industrialise Nigeria and provide employment for millions of unemployed youths.”

According to him, “Textile industry in the 70s and 80s employed as many as 450,000 workers mostly from Kaduna, Kano, Lagos, Funtua, Jos, Guzau, Port Harcourt, Asaba and Aba among others where the industries are located.”

He pointed out that the conference will bring together all stakeholders, notably organised labour from the remaining textile mills in Nigeria, captains of industry and government officials among others to discuss the ways and means to help the new government fulfill its electoral promise of reviving the textile industry and creation of jobs soon.

He also listed state governors, legislators and other top government functionaries among those who will attend and provide road map for survival of the textile industry in Nigeria.
