Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), on Wednesday took a swipe at the billionaire brother of Governor Ademola Adeleke, Dr Deji Adeleke, Senator Dino Melaye and the global hip hop act, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, for accusing the party of vote buying during the last Saturday’s gubernatorial poll in the state.

Describing the allegation against the APC as baseless and lacking substance, the party in a statement by its director of media and information, Kola Olabisi, advised members of the public to dismiss it as mere beer parlor talks.

It is recalled that the Adeleke, who is the standard bearer of Accord, had defeated his counterpart in the APC, Bola Oyebamiji, popularly known as AMBO by polling 511,067 votes, while the latter scored 444,815 during the recently concluded governorship election in Osun State.

Both Deji Adeleke and his son had after the poll accused the APC and its leaders of allegedly spent over N60 billion to induce voters during the poll, pointing out the governor’s re-election was as a result of God’s intervention and resilience of Osun people.

However, while reacting to the allegation, Olabisi, who described Adeleke’s electoral victory as pyrrhic, argued that
“the fabricated vote-buying allegations against our party but which we are refuting as lacking in truth, substance and without any supportive foundation.

He noted different versions of vote buying allegations from the camp of Adeleke demonstrated lack of coordination of individuals whose agenda was to misinform the public.

Olabisi further stated: “It was disheartening that some respected members of the public could mortgage their status for political idle talks to turn themselves into purveyors of falsehoods in order to misinform the innocent members of the public.

“Dr Deji Adeleke was reported to have accused our party of bribing the voters with N70 billion, while his son, Davido, said it was N120 billion and Melaye was touting N60 billion.

According to him the sharp disparity in the conjured figures rolled out by Deji Adeleke, Davido, and Senator Dino Melaye, a political activist of the reactionary extraction, was “an attestation to the fact that the affected characters are far from being co-ordinated and grossly guilty of spewing falsehoods to misinform the unsuspecting members of the public.”

“It was worrisome that despite the fact that the still photographs and recorded video recordings of the instances where the Accord Party agents and members were brazenly engaging in vote-buying have gone viral, someone, somewhere still thought he could be playing on the intelligence of the discerning members of the society by absolving the Accord Party of vote-buying.

“We challenge Dr. Deji Adeleke, Davido and Melaye to explain the purpose for which the cash gift of N20,000.00K paid into the salary account of each of the state workers three days to the election was if not vote-buying through the back door?

“How about the cash gift of the N50,000.00K given to each of the National Youth Service Corps member serving in the state paid into their bank accounts by the state government few days before the governorship election?

Dismissing vote buying allegation against the APC, Olabisi submitted that Accord Party handlers who were desperate for the re-election of their candidate were doing everything morally and constitutionally considered an aberration for the pyrrhic victory of their governorship candidate.
