The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC), yesterday, condoled with the immediate and political families of former Chairman of Irewole Local Council of the state, Remi Abass, who was allegedly killed on Monday during a clash between some members of the party and supporters of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Ikire.

The state Chairman of the APC, Tajudeen Lawal, in a statement issued by the party’s Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, described the killing of “the peace-loving and consummate politician as inhuman, wicked and callous.”

Lawal, who directed other chairmen and their councillors to stay off their respective council secretariats in the state as a sign of respect for their fallen colleagues until further notice, assured them that the late Abass would not be killed in vain.

Meanwhile, the Commissioner of Police (CP) in the state, Muhammed Abba, has confirmed that six persons were killed during the chaos over control of council secretariats in the state.

The CP, through the Public Relations Officer of the state Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, yesterday, said six people were killed while “many have been hospitalised.”

Abba promised that the command would ensure that the perpetrators of the fatal violence are arrested and prosecuted, saying that peace is gradually returning to the state.

However, observations and findings by The Guardianrevealed that law and order had been restored to the councils as armed policemen man the main gates of many secretariats visited.
