There was pandemonium, yesterday, in Ofatedo Community, Egbedore Local Council of Osun State following the murder of a prince of the community by suspected cultists.

The 43-year-old victim, Yunusa Okunloye, one of the sons of the Olofa of Ofatedo, Oba Abdulahi Okunloye, was shot dead in the wee hours of last Saturday.

Eyewitnesses revealed that a gang of three cultists stormed Yunusa’s residence at number 5 Olofa Street, Ofatedo, at about midnight, summoned him out of his room, and gunned him down.

Confirming the killing, the Public Relations Officer of the Osun State Police Command, Yemisi Opalola, said the remains of the deceased had been deposited at the morgue of Osun State University Teaching Hospital, Osogbo.

Opalola said: “At about 00:00 (midnight) on Saturday, a group of suspected cultists numbering three invaded Olofa Street and called one Yunusa Okunloye, aged 43 out of his room and shot him in his chest. He later gave up the ghost.

“Corpse removed and deposited at UNIOSUN Teaching Hospital Mortuary for autopsy. No arrest made yet. Frantic efforts are on to arrest the suspects.”

Irked by the development, youths in the area, yesterday morning, stormed the streets and blocked roads in protest of the murder of their prince.

The protesters used logs of wood, benches, and iron rods to barricade the busy Dele Yes Sir-Ofatedo-Bolanle road and caused traffic snarl in the area.

Traders and other business owners in the area hurriedly shut their shops and offices over the fear of attack by the angry indigenes.

Speaking under condition of anonymity, one of the deceased’s relatives explained that Yunusa was killed by a cultist he identified as BJ, after interfering in a fight between a commercial shuttle bus driver, and BJ cult group.

Also speaking, the Chairman, Oodua Peoples Congress (OPC), Egbedore Local Council simply identified as Gago, said the OPC has been monitoring the movement of the cultist who has been meeting at the Airport land in Ido-Osun.

Gago who assured the protesting youths that OPC would collaborate with the Police to get BJ apprehended said BJ’s father is present in the police custody.
