Satisfied with the academic performance of Kano State indigenes sponsored for postgraduate scholarship in India, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has said his administration’s investment on education is progressively yielding positive results.
Yusuf expressed satisfaction during his visit to Sharjah University in India, where he met with Kano Students presently pursuing their academic program under the state foreign scholarship scheme.
In October 2023, Gov. Yusuf flagged off the foreign scholarship programme where about 1,001 postgraduate students under the state sponsorship departed to India and Uganda for various postgraduate programmmes. During the inauguration, the Governor said the return of the foreign scholarship was in continuation of the Kwankwaso administration, which placed high premium on quality education.
Yusuf said it was clearly seen that some of those trained under the scheme by Kwankwaso were now occupying important positions of authority in the present administration, citing the likes of Commissioner for Higher Education, Dr Yusuf Ibrahm; the Statistician General of the State, Prof. Aliyu Isa Aliyu; and the Special Adviser on Innovation, Dr Bashir Muzakkir, among others.
During the recent visit to India, Governor Yusuf expressed pride in the dedication and accomplishments of the Kano contingents, describing their success as clear proof of the benefits of investing in education.
The Governor contended that the resources allocated to the scholarship programme were wisely spent, as the students had surpassed expectations with their remarkable academic results. He declared his unwavering commitment to advancing education, while assuring that nurturing young talents will remain as focal point of his administration.
The governor also revealed that his visit provided an opportunity to engage directly with the students, address their challenges and gather valuable insights from the pioneer batch of over 400 students sponsored to various universities in Uganda and India as part of the 100:1 Postgraduate Scholarship Scheme.
“The visit has enabled us to conduct an on-the-spot assessment aimed at enhancing preparations for the next set of beneficiaries, both for foreign and domestic scholarships, to ensure the completion of the 100:1 initiative before the end of our tenure.
“This initiative reaffirms our administration’s belief in education as a transformative tool for societal growth and development. This visit serves as an inspiration for students to strive for academic excellence, both at home and abroad.”
