Olopoeyan while addressing newsmen in Ibadan, said there was no crisis in NNPP, just as he urged the founder/ Chairman Board o Trustees of NNPP, Dr. Boniface Aniebonam, not to use his position to disrupt the peace within the platform.
The Ibadan based politician also admonished Aniebonam, not to interfere with the party’s process and that he also need to respect the constitution.
“I have been hearing a lot concerning our party NNPP, but to me, there is no issue, just that the BoT chairman is trying to exhibit his superior power. But to me, such is not necessary, for the fact anybody founded a party does not turn the person to an alpha and omega of the party.
“NNPP is a political party with a recognized constitution, all allegations and penalties levelled against any party member, stakeholders or candidate should be left for the National Working Committee (NWC) to decide, even if the state working committee made any decision on such matters, there is still need for the NWC to ratify.
“If truly, Kwankwaso engaged in anti-party activities and associated with any candidates from other political parties, it is only the party in his state or the national body that can deal with the issue. If Kwankwaso is found guilty, necessary steps should be taken, not that the BoT chairman will instigate his loyalists and some suspended chairmen to implement his (Aniebonam) unilateral agenda at any time,” he said.
Olopoeyan said a BoT chairman does not has the constitutional right to suspend or reinstate any party member, stakeholder or candidate in the party, the current action of our party BoT chairman might lead to an irresolvable crisis within the party.
” More so, the party crisis in some states, especially in Ogun state, is to be left for the NWC, Dr. Aniebonam, issuing a letter addressed from the office of the founder of the party, instructing the NWC to reinstate the suspended member, is tantamount to ridiculing our party and its constitution.
From my experience in politics, there is nothing like the ‘Office of the Founder’, neither the founders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) and major opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has ever made use of such an office, even the BoT office of a party is not recognized by INEC, which is the sole umpire for political parties.”
He said the Oyo chapter is solidly behind all the NWC’s decisions.
