The Oyo/Osun Area Command of the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) has announced that the command generated a record revenue of N82 billion in 2024, marking a 15.3 per cent increase from the previous fiscal year.
The Area Controller, Dr. Ben Oramalugo, disclosed this, on Friday, at the command’s operational headquarters in Ibadan while speaking on the command’s achievements in 2024, and early 2025 accomplishments.
He said the command successfully seized uncustomed goods valued at N5.37 billion during the same period. Oramalugo highlighted that the revenue collected in January 2025 alone was N7.8 billion, representing a 10.1 per cent increase compared to January 2024.
According to him, the duty paid value of seized items in 2024 reflected a staggering 1,091.14 per cent increase compared to the previous year. He added that between December 20, 2024, and January 31, 2025, the command seized goods worth N202.78 million, including foreign parboiled rice, used tires, and premium motor spirit, all of which posed risks to Nigeria’s economy.
Oramalugo stated that the command has been actively engaging local communities to raise awareness about the dangers of smuggling and its negative impact on national development.
He explained further that by fostering collaboration with the public, the command aimed to enhance its anti-smuggling efforts and protect local industries from substandard goods.
