PANDEF mourns as Edwin Clark dies at 97

The Pan Niger Delta Forum (PANDEF) has mourned the passing of Chief Senator Dr. Edwin Kiagbodo Clark, a revered elder statesman and national leader, lamenting that a mighty iroko has fallen.

Chief Clark died peacefully in Abuja on Monday, February 17, 2025, at the age of 97, surrounded by family and loved ones.

The announcement was made through a statement signed by PANDEF’s National Publicity Secretary, Olorogun (Sir) Obiuwevbi Ominimini, Ph.D., and jointly issued by Professor College Clark of the Clark-Fuludu-Bakederemo family of Kiagbodo, Delta State, and Ambassador Dr. Godknows Igali, OON, PANDEF’s National Chairman.

Describing his death as the fall of a “mighty Iroko tree,” PANDEF hailed Clark’s immense contributions to public service, politics, and community development over a span of 75 years.

A distinguished lawyer, activist, and politician, Clark was a formidable voice for the South-South region and the Ijaw ethnic nationality.

He founded PANDEF and co-led the South and Middle Belt Leaders Forum (SMBLF), advocating tirelessly for justice, equality, and human rights.

Known for his fearless defense of marginalized communities, Clark’s influence extended beyond politics into law, education, and community development. His unwavering commitment to fairness and equity earned him national recognition and respect.

The statement read in parts, ” Pa Clark contributions to the legal profession, politics, community development, and the educational sector where he founded several universities are immeasurable.

“As he quietly departs after a very active life that just eluded his 98 birthday, his standing as a passionate champion of the people, a brilliant mind, and a generous spirit will continue to inspire all Nigerians to work the more towards a more just, equitable, and compassionate society.

“We are comforted by God’s word in Acts Chapter 13:36: “After he had served the purpose of God in his own generation, he fell asleep and was allowed to rest”

The statement said, detail programme for his obsequies will be announced in due course.

The statement noted that Pa Clark has gone to join his friend, Pa Ayo Adebanjo praying that their souls rest in peace.
