Parents of the Federal Government College (FGC), Ijanikin, Lagos, have lamented the imposition of cleaning materials and payment of some dues by the school authorities without following the unified payment arrangement by the Federal Government.

Parents of the Federal Government College (FGC), Ijanikin, Lagos, have lamented the imposition of cleaning materials and payment of some dues by the school authorities without following the unified payment arrangement by the Federal Government.

One of the parents of the school, Mr. Douglas Danor, while speaking with The Guardian, said that the bills given by the school included stationeries and cleaning items, yet the cleaning items are still being used as pre-requisite for clearance on resumption.

Danor noted that the religious dues and cleaning materials were initially per session before it was now introduced as a termly payment as well as an introduction of night prep dues, which was the responsibility of the Parent-Teacher Association (PTA).

MEANWHILE, Chairman of the PTA, Mr. Olusola Tokede, told The Guardian that bringing of the items by the students is universal in all Federal Government Colleges on resumption every session, stating that the payment of class dues and hostel dues are internal arrangement of the school.

Tokede said that the payment was introduced this session and was initially the responsibility of PTA but was included for proper supervision of the students to avoid vices.

“We just started the payment of N500 for night prep and supervision. The teachers are not paid to work at night. It should be understood that the money should be used to take care of them,” he said.
