The Nasarawa State Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate in the March 16 gubernatorial election, Dr. David Ombugadu, has filed a petition at the Election Tribunal challenging the declaration of Governor Abdullahi Sule of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as the winner by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

In the petition submitted to the tribunal, both the PDP and the guber candidate stated that the declaration of Sule as the winner of the governorship election was done in error, accusing state INEC officials of connivance.

According to the petition, the results from Nasarawa, Awe, Keffi, and Lafia councils by the state Returning Officer, Professor Ishaya Tanko, were totally at variance with that of INEC Certify True Copy (CTC), polling units and INEC iRev portal, wondering where the state Returning Officer got his results.

“From the INEC CTC results given to PDP and iREV portal, the APC scored 289,524 votes, while the PDP recorded 293, 653 votes. PDP won with a margin of 4,130 votes over APC,” the candidate and the party noted.

The petitioners expressed hope that the judiciary would be fair and just in retrieving what they described as their “stolen mandate” freely given by the people of the state.
