President Muhammadu Buhari’s comment that “Nigerians who feel they have another country may choose to go” has been strongly condemned by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

According to a statement by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Femi Adesina on Monday, Buhari made the remark, while receiving All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship aspirants and party members from Kwara State at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

But the PDP, in a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan yesterday, stated that such remarks against suffering Nigerians was unbefitting of a president, defeatist and characterises a failed leadership, which has lost all sense of responsibility to its people.

The party said the remark further confirmed that President Buhari is completely insensitive to the plight of Nigerians and has no solutions to the many challenges his administration has caused the masses.

It described such comment as ‘un-fatherly’ and a direct slap on the sensibilities of millions of Nigerians, who have been painfully bearing the economic hardship, hunger and starvation caused by President Buhari’s wasteful and inept administration, to the extent that many have committed suicide, while others went into slavery as survival option.

“The President should come to terms with the fact that majority of Nigerians can no longer take the failures, insensitivity and incompetence of his administration.

“They have now reached a consensus to elect former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, who has always shown commitment to the welfare of Nigerians.

“This country belongs to all of us. Our citizens believe and love their fatherland and will never abandon it, notwithstanding the anguish and pains brought by the failures of President Buhari and his corrupt cabal who have continued to display the worst form of aloofness and insensitivity to the plight of our people,” the statement reads.

Also, PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus, yesterday restated that the party has not reversed its no-confidence vote on the Independent National Commission (INEC).

He made the remark, while receiving a delegation of the European Union (EU) Election Exploration Mission to Nigeria at the party’s National Secretariat in Abuja.

Secondus said intelligence available to the party shows that the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has concluded arrangements with INEC to manipulate the electoral process next year.

He stated that what happened during the governorship election in Osun State merely underscored the party’s fears that INEC was not ready to be neutral, adding that Amina Zakari’s deployment from operations department was capable of influencing others within the electoral body.
