A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has asked Benue State Governor, Samuel Ortom to defend himself against fraud allegations within a week or face legal action.

The Ahmed Makarfi-led faction of the party alleged high level of corruption amongst some governors of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and urged the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) and the Independent Corrupt Practices and other related offences Commission (ICPC) to probe these cases.

The party also re-affirmed it’s position that the fight against corruption was targeted against the opposition, alleging that only perceived enemies of the administration are being hunted.

In a statement in Abuja, the party wondered why despite the promises made to Nigerians by the ruling party before coming on board, it has failed to provide food for the masses two years after being in power.

Making reference to statement by former Vice President, Atiku Abubakar in Minna, Niger State on Monday where he lamented the level of hunger in the country, the PDP noted that this showed the inability of the APC to deliver on it’s mandate.

The statement issued by the national legal adviser of the party further asked Ortom to provide documented evidence to defend the graft allegations against his government.

The Special Adviser on Media to the governor, Tahav Agerzua through a message in the social media denied the allegations against Ortom.

“The allegations against Samuel Ortom and his allies are too many. This is a government that bandies figures of theft of public funds by the previous administration, so one would expect the governor to be different.

“This is heart-breaking and unbelievable. The details of these allegations are there for anyone to see and prove otherwise,” the statement added.
