Edo State Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Dan Orbih, has described Saturday’s House of Assembly election in the state a rape on democracy following outcome of the election where the All Progressives Congress (APC) clinched all the 24 seats in the state House of Assembly.

Orbih, who said the national and state elections were not about the PDP, noted that the country’s democracy is under threat, saying: “The nation’s democracy under President Muhammadu Buhari-led APC is taking us back to the Stone Age.”

He called for concerted efforts to ensure that the country’s democracy does not lead to a fully-blown dictatorship.

Orbih, while also commending Edo people for the peaceful conduct of the elections, said the party is committed to ensuring that everything must be done to save its democracy.

“We are in full support with Abubakar Atiku’s decision to approach the court to challenge the presidential results declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). The electoral process is being bastardised. People are not allowed to cast their votes and votes don’t count. I fear for the future of the country and its democracy. What is the future of our democracy? Certainly, this is not democracy.

“We have lost more lives in the just-concluded elections in the country than countries in war.

“The outcome of Saturday’s House of Assembly election is a sad development and a complete rape on democracy, which is worrisome and disturbing,” he said.
