PDP lost to impunity, imposition of candidates, says Sheriff

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) yesterday listed impunity and imposition of candidates among issues that led to the defeat of the party in the 2015 general election to the All Progressives Congress (APC).

National Chairman of PDP, Ali Modu Sheriff, who stated this on Tuesday, when Adamawa state chapter of the party paid him a courtesy call, lamented that the state had been a PDP stronghold for sixteen years.

He stated that, but for the imposition of unpopular candidates against the wish of the electorates, the party would have won the state.

Sheriff said, “Sheer impunity by party leaders in Abuja made them lose all the elective positions in the state in 2015.

“The impunity with which the party was run made you to lose all elections including the legislature.”

The party’s new national chairman assured the PDP state chapter of the party of his unflinching support to ‘do the right thing’ by putting in place the right people that would help the party to win elections.

He stated that it is obligatory on him to develop interest in the politics of North-East, explaining that his success in the region will serve as a litmus test for other national elections.

Earlier, the leader of the team and Adamawa State party Chairman Mr. Joel Madaki had congratulated the chairman on his appointment and pledged their unalloyed support for him to succeed.
