The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has said that its presidential candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, is set to revamp the nation’s economy through the creation of qualitative employment for youths.

The party said its candidate would also implement the political and economic restructuring of Nigeria in a manner that will engender unity, inclusiveness in governance and upliftment in the general standard of living for all our people.

In a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Kola Ologbondiyan, the party maintained that on election into office, its presidential candidate would immediately commence the marketing of Nigeria to the international business community, as well as providing a clement environment for businesses to thrive in our nation.

In a similar vein, former Governor of Ogun State and Director-General, Atiku Presidential Campaign Organisation, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, has assured Nigerians that Atiku has the pre-requisite understanding of the nation’s economy and nationalistic tendency to drive the nation out of its present socio, political and economic quagmire.

Daniel, who spoke at a media parley in Lagos yesterday, allayed the insinuation that the choice of former governor of Anambra State, Mr. Peter Obi from the South-East region as running mate to Atiku would affect the PDP’s support in the South-West.

He said: “What the South-West hinged its support for Atiku on is restructuring and not necessarily targeting the position of vice president.

I can authoritatively say that our standardbearer has promised to concede the position of Secretary to the Government of the Federation (SGF) to the South-West aside other ministerial and National Assembly positions that would be shared.”

However, university lecturers under the aegis of Academic Democrats, South-East, South-South chapters, yesterday promised to support the Atiku and Obi presidential joint ticket, describing it as perfect.

Similarly, students in the South-East under the aegis of Student Community Voters (SCV), South-East, have endorsed the nomination of Obi as the running mate of the PDP presidential candidate.

While the lecturers arrived at the decision after an extensive meeting in Awka, Anambra State, after examining the manifestoes of major candidates in the 2019 general elections, the SCV in a statement signed by its Chairman, Ezeukwu Christopher, said Obi is eminently qualified and has the solidarity of youths across the nation.

Meanwhile, the United Kingdom (UK) Chapter of the PDP at the weekend urged Atiku to bring to bear his wealth of experience as former vice president to rescue the nation from the economy doldrums if elected president in the forthcoming presidential election.

This was contained in a press statement signed by its Interim Chairman, Mr. Osahon Igiebor and nine others and made available to newsmen in Benin City.

Igiebor commended the leadership of the party for conducting peaceful primaries, which produced the presidential candidate of the party.

In another development, North-West Campaigns Director of AtikuCares Foundation, alongside co-ordinators of the foundation across the seven states under the zone, yesterday withdrew their support to presidential aspirant of the PDP in next year’s general elections.

The group, after a crucial meeting in Kano, restated commitment to support Arewa Network group under the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to campaign for the success of President Muhammadu Buhari across the North-West states.

Former Director, Administration and Strategy, AtikuCares Foundation, Sanusi Ababai Katsina, said the former vice president failed to fulfil promises made to poor masses in the states under his supervision.
