THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Tuesday asked the Federal Government and the All Progressives Congress (APC) to ensure that the forthcoming governorship elections in Kogi and Bayelsastates were devoid of irregularities.

The party has also fixed a meeting of its National Executive Committee (NEC) for Thursday to deliberate key issues on repositioning the party.

Meanwhile, the Federal Government yesterday pledged its commitment towards ensuring free, fair and credible electoral system.

Vice President, Prof. YemiOsinbajo, who gave the assurance while receiving the final report of the European Union Observer Mission (EUOM) on the last general elections said it is the duty of the President MuhammaduBuhari administration to guarantee free and fair elections in the country.

The leadership of PDP used the occasion to announce postponement of the flag-off of Kogi State governorship election campaign scheduled for tomorrow, due to security reasons.

The party also said it is postponing the take-off of the campaign for the governorship election in Bayelsabecause the state is still mourning the death of the former governor, DSP Alamieyesegha, who died last weekend.

Speaking while inaugurating the PDP campaign committees for the forthcoming Kogi and Bayelsa governorship elections, the Acting National Chairman of the party, Chief UcheSecondus, said the party was making the demand for credible poll knowing that the two states belongs to it and that the people will vote massively for the PDP.

The EU delegation led by the Chief Observer, Mr. Santiago Fisas, submitted the report to the Vice President at the presidential villa.

According to Osinbajo, “it is our duty to ensure that the electoral system guarantees free and fair elections, where the opposition can win if voted for by the people.”
