The chairman of Petroleum Technology Association of Nigeria (PETAN), Wole Ogunsanya, has said effective gas utilisation is key to Nigeria’s energy independence, just as addressing gas challenges, leveraging opportunities, and implementing strategic initiatives will propel the country towards energy self-sufficiency.
He urged the government and other critical stakeholders in the energy sector to focus on gas more as Nigeria does not have enough energy in circulation.
The PETAN boss, who is also the Managing Director of Geoplex Drillteq Limited, while speaking on the theme: ‘Actualising Nigeria’s Energy Transition: Driving Investment, Energy Security and Sustainable Development,’ mentioned that gas ought to be a more efficient and less carbon form of energy, especially at a time the world is advocating for cleaner energy.
He noted that with the nation’s abundant gas reserves, approximately 200 trillion cubic feet of proven gas, domestic gas utilisation will reduce reliance on imported fuels, generate significant revenue and create jobs.
“Today, the United States is the highest producer of oil and gas. They produce more than Saudi Arabia. They invest in renewable energy. This is what Nigeria needs to increase the nation’s production capacity and reduce imports, which will strengthen the naira.
