Phillips Consulting has held the Inaugural Web Jurist Awards ceremony for public sector websites.

The awards were based on the rating of the websites of the 36 state governments and 80 Federal Government agencies and parastatals, based on a number of objective criteria. The criteria included aesthetics, web performance and customer experience, amongst others.

Mr. Foluso Phillips, founder and Chairman of Phillips Consulting said: “We have raised the awareness of people as to the power and role that the websites play in their businesses successfully in the past with the private sector.”

He also mentioned the positive effect of having a new government in place and the increasing awareness of accountability and reporting as well as taking into cognizance the new age of digital communication.

The grand idea behind the inauguration of the Web Jurist Awards twelve years ago was to awaken in private sector operators the need to optimise their websites for effective and efficient service delivery in a world that was becoming increasingly online.

Twelve years on, the results of that bold initiative are apparent in a truly online world. This inaugural event for public sector websites has the same grand aim: to advance the frontiers of governance and accountability, and to enhance the fulfilment of government’s social contract with the governed

At the ceremony, overall winners and runners-up were announced, as well as best performers in the various website categories that contributed to the final scores. For state government websites, Oyo State emerged overall winner, followed by Plateau and Bayelsa. Lagos State came overall 11th.

The National Broadcasting Commission was first among federal agencies and parastatals, with the Federal Inland Revenue Services and the Federal Road Safety Commission coming second and third respectively.

There were also accolades for websites that emerged tops in the different criteria. On the state government side, Abia State was first for Aesthetics, Enugu was adjudged to have the best web content, while Lagos State had the best Customer Experience.

Among Federal Government agencies and parastatals, the Bank of Industry had the best Technical Features, the FIRS had the best Web Content, and the National Electricity Regulatory Commission had the best Web Performance.
