Residents of Plateau communities, who had lived in darkness for many years, may soon have cause to smile, as machineries have been put in place to reconnect them to the national grid in the next three months.

The assurance was issued by the General Manager – Engineering, Transition Company of Nigeria (TCN), Engr. Shehu Abbah Aliyu, during a courtesy call on the state Governor, Simon Lalong at the Government House, Little Rayfield, Jos, yesterday.

Lalong said 14 out of the 17 Local Councils have been in darkness for years as a result of criminal vandalisation of electricity facilities, adding that some criminally minded people prefer to obstruct and vandalise electricity cables, thereby preventing others from enjoying electricity supply, which extends to Taraba and part of Bauchi State.

“This is a big Christmas gift. I am sure when the residents of the affected areas see you, they’ll start dancing for the next three months that was promised…

“If other administrations have abandoned it, we cannot abandon it. This is a government that takes care of the people. I am very happy that during our period, we are seeing the reality. Whatever obstruction remains, we will do our best to take it away,” he added.

The TCN and host community of Pankshin have also renewed commitment to complete the rural electricity project of Makeri-Guratop-Pankshin 132 KvA line in Pankshin local council, meant to supply power to 14 council areas.

This is even as Lalong expressed delight over the project, describing it as a Christmas gift from President Muhammadu Buhari.
