POEM: I am not a poet

I am not a poet

I am the paving stone

on the sidewalk to filthy wealth,

trampled upon by the callused

feet of the unyeilding kleptomaniacs

I am not a poet

I am a footmat at

the entrance of the dastardly history,

an endnote on the torn,

forgotten page of collective good

I am the reminder

the chiming knell of private despondence

I am the remembrance

the sad song in the public ears,

rumbling in the dried mouth of

wretched singers

I am not a poet…
