Three relatives of the armament keeper attached to the Lagos State police command headquarters, Ikeja, have been arrested for alleged armed robbery and kidnapping in the metropolis.

It was gathered that the three relatives of the state armourer, identified simply as Raji, an Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP), were arrested with two others by detectives attached to the command.

A police source revealed that guns were recovered from the gang who have been terrorizing Lagos State, though unconfirmed reports say the suspects are sons of the armourer.

The source, a Superior Police Officer (SUPOL), disclosed that a top police officer took a swipe at the ‘armourer’ in a meeting at the headquarters where he announced the arrest of the armourer’s siblings, who engaged in armed robbery, allegedly using police weapon.

He alleged that the guns recovered from the suspects are purportedly police guns kept in the care of the armourer. The officer wondered aloud what sorts of moral instructions the armourer was giving to his siblings.

The officer has been allegedly sanctioned and may never remain an armourer in the command. A source said he might face police disciplinary procedures.

However, the Lagos State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Dolapo Badmos, a Superintendent of police, (SP) said it was not a case of armed robbery and that the suspects were not children of the state armament keeper but his siblings.

According to her, the suspects, were arrested for allegedly using soldiers to threaten a resident.

“They were not arrested for robbery, they were arrested for using soldiers to harass someone. Although the complainant alleged kidnap, but when we carried out our investigation, we discovered it was not a case of kidnapping.
