The Police in Ado Ekiti yesterday arraigned two men, Hammed Abdulrasheed and Abiodun Aluko, before the Ado-Ekiti Chief Magistrate’s Court for allegedly stealing a motorcycle worth N1.2 million.

The defendants, whose addresses were not provided, face a two-count charge of stealing and illegally possessing stolen items. The prosecutor, Sgt. Alice Ojo told the court that the defendants committed the offences on August 6, at about 4:00 p.m., in Ado-Ekiti.

She said the first defendant, Abdulrasheed, stole a Bajaj motorcycle valued at N1.2 million belonging to the complainant, Mr Ogundipe Babasanmi. Ojo added that the second defendant, Aluko, had the stolen motorcycle.

According to her, the alleged offences contravened Sections 302 and 343 of the Criminal Law of Ekiti State, 2021. The defendants, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge preferred against them by the police.

The prosecutor urged the court to adjourn the case so that she could study the case file and present her witnesses. Counsel to the defendants, Mr Adeyemi Egbebi, applied for bail to be granted on the most liberal terms. He said that the defendants would not jump bail.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Abayomi Adeosun, granted bail to the defendants in N250,000 each with one surety each and adjourned to September 27 for a hearing.
