THE Delta State Police Command has arrested 46 suspected cult members in a renewed bid to rid the state of the menace and related vices.

The suspects, comprising of 39 young men and seven daring women, were nabbed in separate operations in parts of the state.

The command’s spokeswoman, Celestina Kalu, told newsmen in Asaba that the Special Anti-Robbery Squad (SARS) of the Force had last weekend received information that suspected cultists were holding initiation ceremony at a popular hotel in Ovwian, Udu Local Council.

Kalu, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said that based on the tip-off, operatives were deployed leading to the arrest of 38 males and seven females.

In Ogwashi Uku, Aniocha South Local Council, she revealed that one Chima Ephraim, 25, a suspected member of Junior Vikings Confraternity who resides at Azengwu Quarters in Ogwashi-Uku, was arrested on Independence Day.

The police image-maker added that in a cordon and search operation of Chima’s house following a tip-off by a whistleblower, a locally fabricated double-barrel gun was found on him.

As for the rest, she disclosed that items, including a battle-axe, six armbands with the inscription of Aye Confraternity were recovered from them.
