Opertaives of Ogun State Police Command have arrested one Dare Olagoke, attached to a Micro Finance Bank in Abeokuta for staging a robbery of N3 million cash.

According to the report, Dare colluded with friends to rob him of N3m after he was sent by his employer to make a withdrawal at the bank before they were nabbed by police operatives while responding to a distress call.

Spokesperson for Ogun state Police command, DSP Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the suspect was arrested following a distress call received by the police at Ibara divisional headquarters, that armed robbers have attacked the duo of Olagoke Dare and Mary Agbejo while coming out from a commercial bank at Oke-ilewo area, where they had gone to withdraw some money.

“The DPO Ibara division, SP Segun Ajao quickly mobilised his men and moved to the scene where one Idowu Tunde was arrested with the assistance of members of the public,” he said.

Oyeyemi said the suspect, who was armed with a dummy gun, during interrogation, revealed that it was Dare, who informed him that his employer would be sending him and a colleague to withdraw the sum of N3 million and that they should rob them of the money.

He explained that the suspect said it was Dare who gave him the toy pistol for the operation, adding that, while Dare and his other colleague were in the bank, he already hid in their car, which was deliberately left open by Dare in accordance with their plan, after which he attacked them from inside the car.

He said: “While they got into the car, Idowu Tunde explained that he came out suddenly from the back seat and pointed the gun at the lady, who was in possession of the money. But the lady noticed that the gun did not look original, which she dragged with him and raised alarm.”

Meanwhile, the Acting Commissioner of Police, DCP Abiodun Alamutu, has ordered that the two suspects be transferred to State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department for investigation, appealing that companies should endeavour to have background checks on staff before employment.
