Police arrest five for robbery in Ogun

Nigeria Police Force, Ogun State Command, on Thursday said it arrested five persons suspected for robbery on Monday.

The police spokesman in the state Abimbola Oyeyemi, in a statement, said the suspects were arrested prior to information received by the Deputy Police Officer (DPO) Sango division Godwin Idehai.

The suspects identified as Yusuf Ogundimu a.k.a Agbara, Moses Anthony a.k.a Opa, Moruf Olafimihan, Toheeb Shola and Adeyemi Afeez were arrested while robbing a motorcyclist, Oyeyemi said.

Idehai revealed that eight robbers were seen at the crime scene but only five were apprehended as others took to their heels upon arrival of the police.

He also said all suspects were residents of Onipetesi area of Ijoko and were specialized in snatching motorcycles and had been terrorising Ijoko, Sango, ifo and Agbado areas of Ijoko Ota.

Weapons recovered from the operation are, one locally made cut to size gun, ten live cartridges and one Bajaj motorcycle with registration number EDO 23 QL.

The Commissioner of Police Edward Ajogun has ordered for the immediate transfer of the suspects to Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) for further investigation Oyeyemi said.

Ajogun also appealed to residents to always cooperate with the police so as to make Ogun State crime-free and assured the public that other members of the group will be brought to justice.
