Police arrest Nollywood actor over assault, vandalisation at Lagos airport
The Guardian learnt that Iyke allegedly slapped a Dana Air official, who insisted on the security procedure before boarding.
Iyke, however, later apologised to the airline and was released to travel at about 6:00p.m.
According to sources, the actor arrived some minutes before the departure of the 12:15a.m. Lagos-Abuja flight.
In local flights, a traveler is expected to arrive the airport and commence check-in processes at least an hour to the flight while it is about two hours on international flight.
Iyke, in the course of the aggression, damaged some facilities at the terminal, which led to the airline inviting the police to take charge of the situation.
He was eventually arrested by the police and detained at the airport command.
Spokesperson of the airline, Kingsley Ezenwa, confirmed the development, saying Iyke had come late for the flight, “but because of his personality, the airline’s staff attempted to assist him not to miss the flight.
He was not satisfied with the secondary security check he was made to go through like other passengers for security purpose.
“He was unruly and gave our worker a slap.”
But Iyke said: “I am surprised at this news. I am presently seating at the Dana Air office about to board my flight.
I missed my flight and when I got to the airport, I wanted to try and see if I could make it because the plane hadn’t gone, they even tried speaking to the pilot but it was late. They had to put me on the next flight.
My sister just called me to ask this same question because she said her old school friend called her and told her about my arrest.
I have been at the airport for two hours. I don’t know why people will come up with stories like this.”
