The Imo State police command has denied shooting any medical doctor during a street protest in Owerri, capital city of Imo State, on Thursday.

In a statement issued by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), in the state, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, at the weekend, the Command said its men simply fired teargas at the crowd when they refused to clear the traffic logjam they created during their protest against government’s plan to concession public hospitals.

The statement said: “The protesting doctors took over the major streets in Owerri metropolis, causing traffic log jam and discomfort to members of the public. From Freedom Square where they all converged, they suddenly advanced towards the Government House, infiltrated at this point by miscreants who started throwing stones and other offensive objects at the Policemen who were there to control the situation.
