Police disperse Senator Natasha’s supporters with teargas

Senator Natasha Akpoti
During the 2025 budget defense session of the Joint Committee on Petroleum (Downstream), Petroleum (Upstream), and Gas, Senator Natasha Akpoti (PDP, Kogi Central) raised critical questions about the lack of comprehensive research before rolling out the CNG program

Police operatives deployed teargas to disperse supporters of the Senator representing Kogi Central, Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, preventing them from accessing the National Assembly Complex in Abuja.

Supporters of the Kogi lawmaker converged at the gate of the National Assembly around 8:00 am on Wednesday morning.

They converged to drum support for the Kogi Senator over her recent clash with Senate President Godswill Akpabio and the recent sexual harassment allegations against him.

Akpoti-Uduaghan has been criticised by some female senators, groups, and other politicians since she accused the Senate President of sexual harassment.

On Tuesday, a one-time senator, Florence Ita-Giwa, said in an interview that speaking about sexual harassment as a female senator was a sign of weakness.

In February, the Senator representing the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Ireti Kingibe, said Akpoti-Uduaghan is the most privileged among all female senators in the male-dominated Senate.

Likewise, the Deputy Chief Whip of the Senate, Onyekachi Nwaebonyi, dismissed her sexual harassment claims and accused her of having six children with different men.
