Four Suspects Arrested

The remains of a-56-year-old clergyman, Friday Olakada, the general overseer of a Pentecostal church called  ‘God is God Ministry’, in Agbonchia community in Eleme Local Government Area of Rivers State, was on Friday exhumed by the State Police Command.

The deceased, a father of six children, was abducted at Eleme Junction on May 14, 2021 and moved to Lorre community in Khana Local Council by his kidnappers, where he was killed after 10 days and buried in a shallow grave after collecting N500, 000 ransom from his family.

Meanwhile, four suspects have been arrested in connection with Olakada’s killing. The Guardian gathered from one of the arrested suspects, a 27-year-old man identified as Prince Oda, that the victim grabbed his hand, prayed for him and pleaded to be released, but his gang decided to kill him for fear of being recognised.

The State Police Commissioner, Eboka Friday, while briefing newsmen shortly after the victim’s decomposing corpse was exhumed, disclosed that the suspects received a ransom of N500, 000 and killed the victim to cover their tracks. He, however, explained that with the help of technology and technical expertise, his men were able to track down the culprits.

The Police boss said: “On May 14, 2021, a young man by name Friday, who was a pastor and owned a church at Eleme, was kidnapped by four young men who took him (the victim) all the way from Eleme to this village, called Lorre in Ogoniland. Along the line, they entered into negotiation and demanded a ransom from the family. But we didn’t get to know about the case immediately.

“After negotiations, they arrived at N500, 000, which was paid by the family. But after the suspects collected the money, they still went ahead to kill the man because one of them said maybe the victim recognised him. They killed him ten days after kidnapping him.

“However, with the help of technology, we were able to track and arrest all of them. They confessed to the crime and brought us to the shallow grave, where they buried their victim. We saw that the flesh of the victim was gone, though we were able to recover the bones from the grave.”

Oda said they pulled off their evil scheme with the assistance of their girlfriend, who is currently at large and three other accomplices that have been nabbed by the police.
