The Ogun State Police Command has foiled a planned kidnapping of a Chinese national and arrested two suspects linked to the plot.

The suspects, identified as Chinedu Onwuemena, 41, and Jimoh Ojo, 37, were apprehended by operatives of the Obalende Division on June 9, 2026, following credible intelligence about an impending abduction along the Ijebu-Ode/Odogbolu Expressway.

According to the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, the suspects allegedly conspired to kidnap the foreign national and demand a ransom of ₦50 million.

Investigations revealed that Onwuemena, who worked as an interpreter and driver within the victim’s company, allegedly used his position to facilitate the planned crime.

Police said the operation was swiftly carried out after the Divisional Police Officer mobilised surveillance and tactical teams to the identified location, leading to the arrest of the suspects before the plot could be executed.

Further findings indicate that the suspects worked with another accomplice who is currently on the run. Efforts are ongoing to track and apprehend the fleeing suspect, while investigators continue to uncover the full scope of the criminal network behind the conspiracy.

The case has been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation.

The Commissioner of Police, Ogun State Command, CP Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers involved for their professionalism and swift action, noting that their intervention prevented what could have become a major kidnapping incident.

He also urged residents to remain vigilant and continue providing timely information to security agencies to aid crime prevention across the state.
