THE Zone Six Command of the Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has doled out N100 million to families of 60 officers who died in active duty.
The zone comprises Ebonyi, Rivers, Akwa Ibom and Cross River states.
The Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) in charge of the zone, Baba Bolanta, who represented Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase at the event, said the gesture was offshoot of the life insurance scheme policy of the force.
He explained that the scheme was put in place by the police authorities to ameliorate the suffering of family members of police personnel who either die or sustain fatal injuries in the course of duty.
Bolanta urged judicious utilisation of the funds.
The beneficiaries got between N100,000 and N1.9 million. The list includes Ogar John who got a cheque of N1.5 million; Miracle Okoye N1.1 million as next of kin.
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Osaro Daniel, Mary Afensuwu and Donatus Okpara thanked the Inspector General of Police, saying what they got would go a long way in assisting members of their families.
