• APGA obtains campaign permit
The Anambra State Police Command and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) say they are ready for the August 16 Senatorial bye-election and November 8 governorship election in the state.
The Commissioner of Police (CP), Ikioye Orutugu, and the INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Dr Elizabeth Agwu, said this in separate interviews with the News Agency of Nigeria, yesterday, in Awka.
Orutugu said that the police have been meeting with other security agencies and INEC to ensure hitch-free elections in the state.
“I am the Chairman, Anambra State Security Committee. All the security agencies meet regularly to analyse the security situation and plan.
“Recently, we have been meeting with the INEC to fine-tune plans for the election; therefore, we are fully prepared for the elections,” he said. He said that the police is collaborating with other security agencies to ensure that voters are safe before, during and after the elections.
He commended Governor Chukwuma Soludo and the Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun, for supporting the command to secure the state.
He appealed for more support to enable the police personnel to discharge their duties more efficiently.
Meanwhile, Agwu said that the Commission is ready for the elections, adding that the Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, beginning on July 8, is strictly for the governorship election and not for the senatorial bye-election.
According to her, the CVR will commence on July 17, adding that it would run from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily. She urged eligible voters in the state to come out en masse to register afresh or make necessary corrections to their biodata.
MEANWHILE, as Governor Charles Soludo has been receiving a series of endorsements for his re-election ahead of the governorship elections, his party, the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), on Wednesday, obtained the Out-of-Home Visual Campaign Political Permit.
Valued at N50,000,000, the campaign permit was obtained on July 2, 2025, in accordance with the requirements set forth by the Anambra State Signage & Advertisement Agency (ANSAA).
According to the governor’s Chief Press Secretary, the permit was formally handed over by the Managing Director of ANSAA, Mr Odili Tony Ujubuonu, to the Special Adviser on Political Matters to the Governor, Dr Alex Obiogbolu, and a representative of the APGA government.
